Ice Cream Sundaes with Chocolate Sauce

Kristine Kidd
Ice cream topped with homemade chocolate sauce and a choice of toppings. I like vanilla ice cream because it will be a great contrast for the other flavors, but get whatever you like. You can also stir the sauce into cold or hot milk for a chocolate beverage. Makes 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

Chocolate Sauce, about 1 cup

  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, optional
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar

Sundaes

  • Vanilla chocolate and/or strawberry ice cream, or any flavor you like
  • Toppings of choice- sprinkles M&Ms, chopped nuts, berries, sliced bananas, whipped cream, cookie crumbs, crushed peppermint candies, toasted coconut

Instructions

For the sauce:

  • Combine the chocolate and cream in a saucepan. Stir over low heat just until the chocolate melts and the sauce is smooth. Mix in cinnamon, vanilla and as much sugar as tastes good to you. Remove from heat, and use sauce warm.

For the sundaes:

  • Scoop ice cream into bowls. Spoon warm sauce over. Add toppings of your choice and enjoy!
